Upon successful completion of the course, students are awarded a certificate of completion. Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:

  • Explain the applicable regulations relative to backflow prevention and cross connection control
  • Describe responsibilities of water purveyors, plumbing inspectors, health officials, plumbing trades’ contractors and the water customer
  • Describe the hazards associated with cross connections
  • Define cross connection and list some common cross connections
  • Explain the basic hydraulics of a backflow condition and the differences between backflow due to backpressure and backsiphonage
  • Describe the different types of backflow prevention assemblies and what backflow conditions they protect against

Notes

ADDITIONAL (STATE) EXAM INFORMATION

  • UF/TREEO only issues certificates of completion. The TREEO Center does NOT issue backflow licenses.
  • Certified Backflow Prevention Assembly Testers must check with their local water purveyor to find out what other requirements are necessary. Some water districts may require the backflow tester to also be a State licensed plumbing contractor, while other water suppliers may require the backflow tester to be a licensed plumber and certified repair technician.
