This course provides initial certification for ALL solid waste tracks: Landfill Operator (Class I, III and C&D Sites), Spotters, Transfer Station Operators and MRF Operators all in one class. The course consists of online exercises, presentations, and self-graded quizzes and two exams.
About the Course
Inside each content module, you will find interactive lectures and quizzes. You must achieve a passing score of 70% on each module to move on to the next module. Modules must be completed in sequential order. Within 7 working days your Florida solid waste training transcript will be created and the course added, or if you already have an active Florida solid waste transcript, then this training will be added.
Time for Completion
90 days to complete the course from the date login information for the online course is received in order to receive CEUs or contact hours approved by FDEP.
70% proficiency is required for all exercises in order to receive a Certificate of Completion.
This course will utilize Honorlock for the final exam to ensure exam integrity. Honorlock ensures exam integrity and enables administration of remote online exams. All exam sessions will be reviewed as part of your final grade. Instances of cheating or inappropriate behavior will be considered violations of the Student Honor Code and will result in disciplinary action.
Honorlock is very simple! All you will need to do is log into Canvas and click on the quiz you need to take. You will be prompted to add the Honorlock Chrome Extension, which is required to take your exam. You are required to use Google Chrome as your browser. Then you will need to take a picture, show your ID, and scan your room. Honorlock will be recording you VIA webcam and microphone and they will be recording your screen. They also have an integrity algorithm that can detect search-engine use, so do not attempt to cheat or look up answers, even if its a secondary device.
How do you get started?
- Honorlock is not a live proctoring service, you do not need to schedule an appointment with Honorlock in advance.

You will need to use Google Chrome and download the Honorlock Chrome Extension. You can download the extension at www.honorlock.com/extension/install
- When you are ready to take your exam, log into Canvas, go to your Course, and click on your exam. When you click on "Take your Exam," you will start the authentication process before you begin your exam.
- If you see a page asking for an access code, it means that you did not install the Honorlock Chrome Extension or you are not in Google Chrome.

Learner Outcomes
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the basics of solid waste & landfill operations
- Identify environmental concerns with waste handling facilities; screening for prohibited materials and managing special waste
- Discuss the fundamentals of landfill construction; leachate and gas management; groundwater monitoring issues; monitoring of landfill cell closures; transfer station operations and materials recovery facilities operations.
