COURSE DESCRIPTION
This two day course updates students on guidelines for acceptable practices for testing and annual inspection of backflow prevention prevention assemblies used in cross connection control programs. Students review information in the classroom to prepare for the written exam. They also work with staff in the wet lab to refresh tester skills. Backflow Prevention Assembly Testers hold valid certification for two-years from the date of initial certification and/or recertification. We give a third year as a grace period. You cannot test during the grace period. Once the three years have passed, you will need to take the Initial certification again.
SPECIAL NOTICE TO NON-TREEO TESTERS- UF TREEO does not accept Backflow Tester certifications or recertifications issued by other training providers. To become a UF TREEO Certified Backflow Assembly Tester, individuals must successfully complete the Initial Backflow Assembly Tester Training and Certification
To maintain UF TREEO certification, testers must complete their required recertification training directly through UF TREEO every two (2) years. Completion of certification or recertification courses through other providers — even if a certificate number remains the same — will not be recognized by UF TREEO for initial certification or continued certification status.
Recertification will be awarded after successful completion of a hands-on lab test (RP and DC) and a 50-question written exam. UF/TREEO testers may use written instructions during the hands-on portion of the exam with a 10-point penalty.
The exam will consist of a written portion (1-hour time limit) and a hands-on evaluation (1-hour time limit)
Daily breaks are provided.
You are on your own for lunch.
If you do not pass the final exam and hands-on testing, you are able to return to re-test. A fee of $100 will be charged and must be paid prior to receiving your certificate.
Learner Outcomes
Course Objective
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Explain the basic hydraulics of a backflow condition and the differences between backflow due to backpressure and backsiphonage
- Describe the different types of backflow prevention assemblies and what backflow conditions they protect against
- Demonstrate the proper field test procedure for the reduced pressure principle backflow prevention assembly
- Demonstrate the proper field test procedure for the double check valve.
Please Note:You must be present for entire course time to receive continuing education credit and certificate of attendance.
