Description: 94% of roadways in the United States are composed of asphalt. Roadway infrastructure continues to be a budgetary challenge and this course addresses construction, inspection, and maintenance techniques vital to the extension of roadway life. Asphalt Pavement Maintenance course provides an overview of materials, construction details, and maintenance practices to maximize the life of infrastructure investments. This course includes topics in asphalt testing and standards, asphalt plants, challenges of a good mix, and inspection criteria with examples. Other features include a discussion of drainage impact on the roadway and how to utilize a systemic approach. This workshop focuses on the materials, construction details, and maintenance practices that help extend the service life of asphalt pavements. Videos and sketches will be shown to demonstrate proper and improper maintenance techniques. Ample time will be allowed to address questions on specific maintenance issues. Target Audience: Engineers, roadway crew members, inspectors, repair crews, superintendents.
