Course Description

This course will be built around the question, “What are the top 3 things that get in the way of a team maximizing its abilities?” The goal of this course is to delve into the human-related issues that can get in the way and create structure, systems and organize content to provide teams the platforms for dealing with those issues. Using a sport example, the course will follow two teams, Oregon women’s basketball and Gonzaga men’s basketball, over the course of a season and provide real-world examples of how human related issues were addressed.

Learner Outcomes

Course Objectives By the end of this course, students will be able to:

1. Identify the issues that get in the way of a team maximizing its abilities.

2. Contrast human related v. sport related issues.

3. Identify coaching with influence v. force.

4. Develop a performance and relational glossary for your team.

5. Create an audit for character improvement.

6. Explore when it is hardest to display character in high performance.

7. Identify character skills of strong leaders.

8. Design sessions for engagement in team settings.

9. Create a reinforcement plan for message retention.

10. Define a brand for integration with team identity.

11. Understand the active listening and transitions skill in facilitation.

12. Discern the best use of assets that relate to your audience.

13. Define what constitutes a good question in the facilitation process.

14. Develop skills around honest peer feedback.

15. Prepare a detailed self-feedback plan.

16. Familiarize yourself with the prepare—perform—reflect cycle
