This three-day course will prepare the participant to successfully apply for and take the Florida Level 1 water distribution operators’ exam. Topics include managing the operational and maintenance needs of water storage and distribution facilities; distribution system water quality concerns and disinfection; water distribution system safety; interpreting and applying Federal, State and Local rules and regulations; planning and record keeping requirements; personnel and program management; community interaction and public relations. Students will complete pratice quizzes and tests during the course. Upon completion of the training, the student will receive a certification of course completion that can be used to apply for the Level 1 State examination. Along with a printed handout, all students will receive a copy of the American Water Works Association’s Water Distribution Operator Training Handbook, Fourth Edition.
Learner Outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Apply to take the State of Florida Water Distribution Operator Level 1 examination.
- Discuss the operation, maintenance and management needs of a water distribution system serving 100,000 or more persons.
- By interpreting Federal, State and Local rules and regulations, identify the water quality concerns and disinfection needs of water distribution systems.
- Describe the safety practices and programs related to water distribution system operation and maintenance.
- Discuss the administrative and supervisory requirements of water distribution system management.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform math calculations related to the operation, maintenance and management of a water distribution system.;
