This detailed two day “how-to” course is designed for water or wastewater operator and mechanics who want to gain a practical understanding of how centrifugal and positive displacement pumps operate. Participants will learn pump theory and how to plan and perform essential pump maintenance to ensure reliable treatment plant system performance.

Learner Outcomes

  • Explain the operating principles of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps 
  • Practice reading pump curves
  • Identify common causes of pump cavitation and how to prevent it
  • Explain the inspection and replacement of pump packing and mechanical seals
  • Identify common pump performance problems
