Course Description

This 8-hour continuing education course will provide the clinician with a comprehensive, evidence-based didactic and clinical (simulation) experience on how to diagnose pulp status and conservatively treat deep carious lesions and traumatic dental injuries affecting vital primary and young permanent teeth. New materials and restorative techniques will be introduced, discussed and practiced.
At the end of the course, participants will feel more confident in treating their young patients using modern concepts with the intent of increasing treatment success and patient satisfaction.

Course Outline

- To familiarize the practitioner with contemporary, evidence-based vital pulp therapy techniques for primary and young permanent teeth affected by caries and/or trauma;
- To in depth review the significance of data gathering (pain history, symptoms, sensibility tests), clinical and radiographic interpretation to facilitate diagnosis and the correct treatment approach;
- To understand indications and contraindications for indirect pulp treatment, direct pulp capping, partial and full pulpotomy;
- To understand the clinical applications of calcium silicate cements, glass ionomers cements, resin-modified glass ionomer cements and stainless-steel crowns when restoring primary and young permanent teeth with deep caries lesion and significant loss of tooth structure.
