778300 - Hybrid Intelligences - Creative Leadership

Course Description

Hybrid Intelligences, part of the College of the Arts Creative B summer program, explores creative foundational leadership in the era of AI and human-machine collaboration. Participants will attend workshops and studio sessions reflecting diverse perspectives on embodiment and knowledge-making - from architecture and choreography to philosophy, ethics, and intersections of art and medicine. In the 'Futures Lab', participants will imagine and prototype alternative trajectories for human–AI collaboration.

Hosted by the Center for Arts, Migration + Entrepreneurship (CAME) with the IGNITE Program at the Engineering Innovation Institute and the Center for Arts in Medicine (CAM). Sponsored in part by the College of the Arts Creative B Summer Program in partnership with the Office of the Provost.

Course Outline

The program offers three distinct tracks with interactive workshops exploring key themes. Participants may attend any combination of workshops. Earn a Digital Badge for each track by completing two of the three program sessions.

• Track 1 | Embodiment, Memory and AI - Mondays, July 13, 20 & 27 (12:30 - 3:15pm)
• Track 2 | FUTURES LAB: Speculation, Prototyping & Possible Worlds - Wednesdays, July 15, 22 & 29 (5:30 - 7:30pm)
• Track 3 | Ethics and Embodied Creative Leadership - Thursdays, July 16, 23 & 30 (12:30 - 3:15pm)

Students may also attend open studio lab and mentoring time with program leaders to develop ideas, refine skills, and build experimental prototypes. The program culminates in a public Open Lab / Open Studio participant showcase with the UF campus and Gainesville community.

Learner Outcomes

Track 1 | Embodiment, Memory and AI: This track explores diverse perspectives on creative leadership in the context of generative AI through ethical inquiry, critical reflection, and embodied practice. Participants engage in hands-on workshops and studio sessions examining responsibility, agency, and decision-making in hybrid human–machine systems.

Track 2 | FUTURES LAB: Speculation, Prototyping & Possible Worlds: Learners will use dance, music and visual arts to imagine the year 3000. The workshops will introduce participants to movement making strategies, visual mapping, soundscapes, scores, and other artistic mediums for exploring complex questions about futures and possibilities. Participants can apply these arts-based methods to generate insights, identify emergent patterns through creative exploration, and translate discoveries into initial installations, narratives, or performances. The learner has foundational skills to facilitate and continue developing creative inquiry processes.

Track 3 | Ethics and Embodied Creative Leadership: This track examines how AI intersects with spatial practices, memory systems, and embodied experience. Interdisciplinary workshops and studio sessions engage architecture, movement, and cultural memory as sites for rethinking human–machine interaction and perception.

Notes

This free, non-credit course is open to UF students and the public. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop to the sessions, but this is not a requirement.
