Course Description

Dir. of Racquet Sports Course 2: Leadership, Management and Finances for the Racquets Leader

Offered by the University of Florida’s College of Health and Human Performance, this self-paced course is the second in a two-course professional development track designed to prepare racquets professionals for leadership roles in today’s evolving racquets industry. (The first course, which is a pre-requisite to admission to this course is called Facilities, Operations and Marketing in the Era of Complimentary Racquet Sports.)

Developed by top industry experts, the course equips current and aspiring racquet sports leaders with the tools to foster a values-driven leadership culture centered on care, collaboration, and employee well-being. Participants will learn to build high-performing, emotionally intelligent teams by mastering key management practices in communication, engagement, and fair labor standards.

Emphasis is placed on developing team environments that prioritize empathy, trust, and professional growth, while also honing financial acumen in budgeting, compensation, and operational planning. Additionally, learners will explore strategies to elevate the customer and member experience through service excellence and real-time sentiment monitoring.

By the end of the course, graduates will be prepared to lead racquets operations that thrive both culturally and financially.

Students will have 6mos from enrollment to complete the course.

Notes

Director of Racquet Sports Professional Development Track completion:

Learning is self-paced and requires approximately 40-45 hours of time for this course for viewing the lectures, video demonstrations, readings, and completing graded assignments. Students will be given 6 months for completion for the course.

All learners who successfully complete Course 2 with a grade of 70% or greater on all assignments will be awarded a Certificate of Completion for the UF Director of Racquet Sports Professional Development Track. The Certificate of Completion can be submitted to industry organizations for the granting of CEUs, and if otherwise qualified, USTA Coaching, the Racquet Sports Professionals Association and Professional Tennis Registry will grant the designation of Certified Director of Racquet Sports or similar status.

Prerequisites

Completion of Course 1 is required.

Students must use the same login credentials (email) for Course 2 as used for Course 1 to ensure prerequisite is tracked.

Successful applicants will have: 

  • 5 years of full-time work experience. At least 1 year of which is preferred to be supervisory experience (work experience is preferred to be, but not required to be, in the racquets industry)

  • A professional coaching certification at an advanced level is preferred but not required

  • The name and contact information for a current or previous supervisor who will provide a professional recommendation.

  • USTA Safeplay verification (or international equivalent)
