Summary
This course will provide learners with a review of the treatment modalities associated with a variety of toxicological emergencies that are commonly managed in the acute care setting. Learners will have the opportunity to apply the content learned to develop patient-specific individualized treatment plans in the context of the toxicological emergencies reviewed in this primer.
This course is approved by the Florida Board of Pharmacy for 3.0 contact hours to meet requirements pursuant to CHAPTER 64B16-26, Florida Statutes, and Rule 64B16-26.300, Florida Administrative Code.

Objectives
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the historical and evidence-based role of activated charcoal in clinical toxicology.
- Discuss the role and clinical application of whole bowel irrigation in managing acute poisonings.
- Review the historical use and associated toxicities of herbal abortifacients that may be used in the post-Roe era.
- Describe the role of hyperinsulinemia-euglycemia in select poisonings.
- Implement strategies to improve medication safety for patients receiving hyperinsulinemia-euglycemia therapy.
Requirements for Successful Course Completion
In order to earn credit for this course, participants must review the lecture material and complete four corresponding lecture quizzes, achieving a total final grade of 70% or higher. Two chances to pass each quiz will be given. If a passing score is not earned by the second attempt, the participant must re-enroll in the course. Upon successful completion of all coursework, participants must complete a course evaluation form.
