Course Description

Description:

“Ethics” may sometimes seem like a pie-in the-sky concept, but we face decisions every day that require us to balance the interests and principles and make our best decision. We do our best, but it can be difficult to “factor out” our own preferences and prejudices. Many professional organization write codes of conduct that define important interests and principles to guide their members with the benefit of accumulated wisdom. AICP, ITE, ASCE, NSPE – whatever organization you are part of and whatever your profession, ethics is a central concern, not a peripheral one.

In this webinar, we will study actual cases that put a professional’s ethics to the test in very practical situations. We will both typical and unusual conflicts of interest. We will look at what happens when codes of conduct are in conflict, such as an organization’s and a government agency’s. We will discover resources that can help you as you navigate ethical challenges. And we will look at how to work through the conflict between what we should do and what we want to do.

When completed, you will have more tools for working through ethical situations. You will know more about specific ethical issues, and you will be more confident in our complex professional environments.
