This course is approved as initial training for Class I & III Landfills, C&D Solid Waste Operators and Transfer Station & Materials Recovery Facility Operators. It includes 2 Exams with a 70% proficiency. Topics includes: Solid Waste Management Basics and Regulations, Environmental Concerns with Waste Handling Facilities, Screening for Prohibited Materials, Managing Special Wastes, Health and Safety, Compliance Inspections, Siting, Heavy Equipment, Landfill Construction, Basic Operations, Leachate Management, Gas Management, Groundwater Monitoring, and Landfills Closure; Transfer Station Operations/Layout and Materials Recovery Facilities Operations and Layout.
Daily morning and afternoon breaks are scheduled. On your own for lunch.
Course is approved through June 2026
Learner Outcomes
At the completion of the training the student should be able to discuss the basics of solid waste & landfill operations; environmental concerns with waste handling facilities; screening for prohibited materials; managing special waste; the fundamentals of landfill construction; leachate and gas management; groundwater monitoring issues; monitoring of landfill cell closures; transfer station operations and materials recovery facilities operations. The students will also complete two exams.
Participants must be present for entire course to receive continuing education credit and a Certificate of Completion. All participants take two exams TS/MRF on Day 2, Landfill on Day 3. Note - If participant is needing continuing education credits [CEUs] to maintain their active landfill operator training, then they should probably take the refresher training (no exam).
